Steps to Becoming a BNSF Hazmat Responder

STEP 1– Be a current employee of BNSF Railway and work in one of the following departments:

  • Operations
  • Mechanical
  • Environmental
  • Engineering
  • Damage Prevention
  • Safety

STEP 2 – Complete the below request form for approval from the Hazmat Manager in your region.

STEP 3 – Once approved, obtain medical clearance by completing a Hazmat physical.

STEP 4 – Complete the Incident Command Systems 100 and 200 web based training courses.

STEP 5 – Attend one of the 40 hour HAZWOPER courses taught by the BNSF Hazmat Team and our Emergency Response Contractors.
